Finally in Sydney

We’ve finally made it to Sydney, and I’m absolutely knackered. I haven’t slept pretty much the whole way here. The food on the plane was pretty horrible this time, as you can see below…

Crap in-flight meal

t was basically some dry horrible salad, a pot noodle, a really doughy bread roll, and a rather nasty panna cotta. Thank god they weren’t stingy with the alcohol. I needed something to wash it down and get rid of the nasty after-taste.

We’re staying in an area of Sydney called Potts Point, and our room has a pretty good view of the harbor…

Time to get some sleep finally.

Off to Australia

I’m sitting in Narita Airport just outside Tokyo at the moment. We’ve just got off a 12 hour flight from London, and now we’ve got to sit around for the next 6 hours until we can get the connecting flight to Sydney. Narita has to be the most boring airport I have ever been to. There’s just nothing to do here :-/

The first flight wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I didn’t manage to get much sleep, but the seats were fairly comfortable, and the flight wasn’t too crowded. The food was pretty good too (by airline meal standards).

All over the airport they have these weird massage chairs. Since we had nothing better to do we decided to have a go on them. It wasn’t an entirely pleasant experience, it almost felt like someone was punching me in the back half the time :-s

British Museum

British Museum

Andy and I were at a loose end today, wandering around town fairly aimlessly, so we decided to head for the British Museum. I can’t say the exhibits interest me that much any more, I’ve been a couple of times before, but the space itself is amazing. The reading room in the middle of the courtyard is quite cool too.

Borough Market

Borough Market

Today we went for wander along the South bank. Thankfully it wasn’t as cold or as windy as I was expecting. We had a nose around Borough Market too. If you ever find yourself in London Bridge on a Saturday morning then I highly recommend having a look around. So much nice food :)

New Intel Macs

Apple released their first Intel Macs this week, including the new MacBook Pro. I sooo want one. Especially since my two year old 15” PowerBook has recently started exhibiting the infamous white spot problem on the display :(

Apparently my PowerBook isn’t in either of the serial number ranges that apple is covering under their display repair extension program. I think I’m going to have a go arguing with someone at the Apple store to see if I can get it repaired under warranty.

Oh well. I don’t really need a new computer right now, and I definitely can’t afford a new laptop. It will be interesting to see if there are any teething problems for the early adopters of the new Intel Macs, and also how quickly people can get them dual booting with Windows. Finally we will have a decent choice of games on the Mac (as long as you are willing to install Windows).

Anyway, my next purchase isn’t going to be a computer, it’s going to be a new digital camera. I want to buy an entry-level SLR before I go to Australia in April. I’ve been using a Canon IXUS 400 up to now, but it’s a bit limiting. I think it’s time to upgrade to an SLR. Currently I’m tempted by the Canon EOS 350D as it’s quite compact and light, but I also like the look of the Nikon D50 (not as small or light, but a lot cheaper). Decisions descisions…
